Affiliate Program Technical Guide

Not all users are familiar with the more technical aspects of the Internet; certain aspects like embedding your Affiliate link in your website might require a little more knowledge.

This manual provides you with the following technical knowledge to kick-start your Affiliate Marketing Campaign:

1. Obtaining your Affiliate Link

1.1 Embedding your Affiliate link in your website

2. Masking your Affiliate link to prevent link theft

3. Inserting the Splash Page in your website

4. Inserting the RSS Widget in your website

1. Obtaining your Affiliate Link

To obtain your Affiliate Link, please go to http://www.ablewise.com/affiliates/AffiliateLinks/.

What you see in the picture above is a small portion of the links in the Affiliate Links page.

Picture 1.1(a). This is how the link will appear on your website.
Picture 1.1(b). This is the code you will need to embed in your HTML webpage.

To use the Affiliate Link, all you need to do is copy, and paste, the HTML code in any webpage in your website where you wish the Affiliate Link to appear.

Please note that the phrase after "?ref=" is your unique Affiliate ID. It is also your Ablewise.com user ID.

1.1 Embedding your Affiliate Link in your website

To embed the Affiliate Link in your website, you will first need to select the webpage on which you wish to display the Affiliate Link.

Next, you will need to edit the webpage using any HTML editor. A HTML editor like MS FrontPage Express is good; it is hassle-free and simple to use. If you do not have FrontPage Express installed, you can just use Notepad to edit your webpage. Notepad comes free with any MS Windows installation.

Look through the HTML code and find points of reference for where you want to embed the Affiliate Link.

E.g. your webpage has a sentence that says "Please click here to join now!" (Picture 1.2(a)).

You wish to have your Affiliate Link display immediately after the word "now!". To do this, simply look for the sentence in your HTML code, then copy and paste the code in Picture 1.1(b) right after the word "now!" (refer to Picture 1.2(b)).

Save your webpage, and upload in unto your server. Go to your website; look for the page, and check to see if the Affiliate Link appears there.

2. Masking your Affiliate Link to prevent link theft

Affiliate referrer links can be easily altered to omit your referrer id. If your Affiliate Link has been altered, it will become impossible for the website running your affiliate program to identify new users as your referrals. To avoid this, cloak your Affiliate Link by visiting sites that provide URL-cloaking, such as tinyurl.com and ripeurl.com.

a. http://www.tinyurl.com

Simply type in your Ablewise.com Affiliate Link, which is http://www.ablewise.com/?ref=YourUserID, in the box that says "Enter a long URL to make tiny:", then hit the "Make TinyURL!" button.

Next, look for the link that looks similar to "http://tinyurl.com/1a2b3c". That is the link that you should use (copy and paste) whenever you want to display your cloaked Affiliate Link.

b. http://www.ripeurl.com

Simply type in your Ablewise.com Affiliate Link in the box that says "Enter a long URL to make it shorter:", then hit the "Make Shorter" button.

Next, look for the link that looks similar to "http://www.ripeurl.com/d2fa93". That is the link that you should use (copy and paste) whenever you want to display your cloaked Affiliate Link.

Anyone who clicks on the cloaked URL will be redirected to your actual Affiliate Link.

3. Inserting the Splash Page in your website

Please go to http://www.ablewise.com/affiliates/SplashPage/ to access the Splash Page. We have designed this Splash Page with information on Ablewise.com's various services, such as Free Ads and Power Ads posting, membership benefits and Affiliate Program. You can put it up on your own website, blog or forum for an easy, fuss-free advertising. To see how the splash will look like exactly, please click on the link as in Picture 4(a).

Every link on this Splash Page has been pre-filled with your unique Affiliate ID (Picture 4(b)). This means that no matter what link the users click, be it our Homepage, Affiliate page or Power Ads page, they are effectively clicking on your Affiliate Link.

To insert this Splash Page in your website, you must first decide which webpage you would like to display it in. When you have decided on that, you must open the webpage using a HTML editor (E.g. FrontPage Express). Look for the "< body >" HTML tag in the code. It is usually located at the top.

The code for the Splash Page can be inserted anywhere between the "< body >" and the "< /body >" (usually found at the bottom of all the code). As with Affiliate Links, look for a reference point in your HTML code, and copy and paste the Splash Page code where desired.

4. Inserting the RSS Widget in your website

Please go to http://www.ablewise.com/affiliates/widget/ to access our Widget page. We have designed this stylish RSS Widget which you can display in your own website, blog or forum. As with the Splash Page, every link on the RSS Widget has been pre-filled with your unique Affiliate ID.

To start, simply select the Country, Region and Category (Picture 5(a)) where you wish to get our Ads from. Please allow a little bit of time for the next option to load.

Then copy and paste the Widget code (Picture 5(b)), and put it between the "< body >" and "< /body >" tags of your website, blog or forum.

If you wish to feed your own Ads, simply leave the selections blank and just copy and paste the Widget code directly. Picture 5(c) shows how the Widget actually looks like when it is embedded in your website.
